World Premiere: Phonique feat. Rebecca – Feel What You Want (Maywald Remix)

Phonique feat. Rebecca - Feel What You Want (Maywald Remix)
With over 40 million hits on Youtube to its name since its appearance on Phonique‘s Kissing Strangers LP, ‘Feel What You Want’ is an indisputable deep house classic. Originally a club hit in 1994 for US singer Kristine W, Phonique re-imagined the tune for the modern European dancefloor, re-recording the vocal with the irrersistbale Rebecca and adding layers of slow-burning synth to produce a seductive and utterly compelling groove. Here, re-engineered for the 21st century by veteran Leipzig DJ/ Producer Maywald.

The Maywald Remix is accompanied by a music video. Against the backdrop of Moscow’s glittering new skyline, dancer Julia Lapina reprises her memorable performance from the original video, playfully alluded to in the final seconds of Anton Mishakov‘s arresting short film. Watch music video below:
Today, twenty years on from the original release, Basic Motion – a new label curated by a team of aficionados dedicated to house music that’s both deep and upfront – have commissioned a set of equally brilliant remixes.
Maywald‘s version – also featured as a handy radio edit – is a joyously upfront treatment featuring dancing keyboard pulses, piano breaks, a punchy synth riff and big builds primed for the dancefloor. Meanwhile, the Sunrise Mix brings Rebecca’s vocal to the fore, casting it in a golden haze of soft-focus pads and adding sub bass, bubbling arpeggios and an interlude of romantic piano and orchestral strings. Finally the original Phonique version is included on the new release.
